Rebate Check Information and FAQ

The Treasurer of Marion County, Mike Rodman, worked with the Indiana General Assembly during the 2008 session and obtained bipartisan support in the Senate to change existing state statute so that homeowners in Marion County would receive their rebate faster than allowed by existing Indiana statute. Mr. Rodman's recommendations passed the Senate in Senate Bill 21. The House did not hold a hearing on the bill. This bill would have allowed the Treasurer to apply the rebate as a credit on the reconciling bill.

State statute requires the rebate check to be mailed after the July collection of the reconciliation bill for 2007. Treasurer Rodman sought and received permission to send the check prior to waiting until the Reconciling Bill was paid. All other counties in the State had to wait until after the 2007 taxes were paid. The checks will be mailed prior to the July 10th due date of taxes.

The check will be made out to and mailed to the same name and address as the reconciling statement. We anticipate this information to be correct, if the ownership information is not correct please contact the appropriate township assessor. To determine the office to contact, the first digit of the parcel number listed on the rebate check, equates to the number assigned to the township assessor office. Listed below are the respective numbers:

Center Township 327-4698
Decatur Township 856-2230
Franklin Township 327-4191
Lawrence Township 547-8625
Perry Township 788-4833
Pike Township 327-7453
Warren Township 327-8888
Washington Township 327-4819
Wayne Township 273-4130

If this is property that you are buying or selling on contract, the owner of record is receiving the rebate check. Both parties will need to work through your agreement since we are not a party to this. If you are receiving more than one check you should not, you are only entitled to one homestead and up to one acre of ground. If you are getting more than one homestead deduction you will be liable for additional taxes and be required to refund the erroneous homestead rebate check. You are required to contact the Auditor at 327-4646 and advise them if this is an error.

If you have any delinquencies unpaid, a rebate check will not be forthcoming if the delinquent amount due exceeds the rebate amount. This delinquent information will be verified again after the due date. If the rebate amount exceeds the delinquent amount there will be a rebate refund mailed for the difference. Please contact the Treasurer at 327-4444.

If there has been an A/C which is an Auditors Credit, that means there has been a reduction in your revised billing. The Auditor and/or Assessor will have to determine what the new rebate amount should be. Those checks will be forthcoming after further research is complete.

If you do not have a homestead you will not receive a refund, if you think you should have a homestead, please contact the Auditor at 327-4646 and they can determine if you qualify.
